The Heart of God: Poems About Jesus
Finding the heart of Jesus in the days that surrounded his crucifixion and resurrection.
Robert Street
In The Heart of God, every poem says something about Jesus and frequently says something about us too. By bringing to life some encounters and events surrounding the first Easter, the verses explore the heart of God in discerning and challenging ways. They also show how the kind of issues faced by Jesus are still with us today.
As well as using the poems for personal daily reflection, sharing them with others in group discussion can give opportunity for further insights.
The Scripture on which each poem is based, and key Bible verses, are given to provide the background that inspired these thoughts.
Pam Rhodes (of BBC Songs of Praise and Premier Radio’s Sunday Night Live) writes: ‘Robert Street draws on his lifetime of experience with The Salvation Army – his compassion for people, his heart for communities, his understanding of pain and challenge, of doubt and loneliness, and his own deep love of God, to write these poems that speak of Christ’s humanity and his triumph through the Cross. His words inform our senses and lift our souls.’
