A NUMBER of exciting new developments are taking place in the literary field at International Headquarters.

 

• To cope with the hugely increased output of books under IHQ's new Salvation Books imprint, many International Headquarters books are now available from Amazon.co.uk

 

• Global Exchange – IHQ's magazine for women in ministry and mission – is undergoing a makeover and will be relaunched in January with more content, a fresh look and a new title: Revive

• Words of Life, The Salvation Army's daily Bible-reading plan, is beginning a new era with a change of authorship from General John Gowans (Retired) to New York-based Major Evelyn Merriam

AMAZON
Under a new policy instigated by General Shaw Clifton, IHQ has revived its book-publishing programme and 16 new books have been published in the past 18 months. Many more are in the pipeline. They include original new works, revisions of existing books which continue to be important to Salvation Army life and mission, and reprints of Salvation Army classics.

International Headquarters has no commercial arm, and therefore no sales or marketing organisation other than the policy of offering its books to the trade departments of territories and commands around the world, which it does. However, to make it possible for individual Salvationists and members of the public to obtain copies direct, all Salvation Books (that is, all books published by IHQ with the exception of 'in house' publications such as Orders and Regulations) are now also available online from Amazon.co.uk

REVIVE
Global Exchange has been a success story in recent years, evolving from a duplicated news-sheet to a glossy magazine with a circulation of thousands. With a fresh look and increased content, the magazine will be relaunched in January 2009 under its new name – Revive.

Captain Kathy See (Editor) is optimistic that the new-look magazine will attract further readers and continue to enrich the lives and ministry of women worldwide. Its aim of 'equipping women for mission and ministry' continues to be uppermost.

WORDS OF LIFE
Having completed his term as writer of Words of Life, General John Gowans (Retired) has now handed over this mantle to the USA Eastern Territory's Major Evelyn Merriam. Born and educated in the USA, Major Merriam received her bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Nazarene College, her officer's commission from The Salvation Army's training college in New York, and her master's degree in writing from Manhattanville College. Evelyn and her husband have worked in Christian ministry with The Salvation Army for more than 35 years, five of them in Japan. Their other appointments (a mixture of pastoral and administrative responsibilities) have all been in north-eastern USA, Evelyn's most recent previous appointment being in the Literary Department at USA Eastern THQ.
