Women Who Hope: Sukurunessa
Sukurenessa has worked as an artisan with The Salvation Army's Others group in Bangladesh for four years. Here she is pictured with her daughter, Neela.
I do embroidery work on a number of Others products, such as the star, candle, heart, floral purse, cushion cover, and the tote bag.
From last year's embroidery of star and heart ornaments, I have set aside savings in a bank with the income for my daughter's future, and I have also used the income for family. I hope to educate my daughter with these savings.
I also hope that I can continue to work in The Salvation Army and also train others so that they can work like me and support their families. I am very happy to work with The Salvation Army.
Others is a Salvation Army initiative using fair trade principles to create jobs and contribute to empowerment and poverty alleviation.
In work lies hope for a better future, a pathway to independence, and – not least – dignity and pride. Others is one of the ways in which the international Salvation Army today continues to create employment opportunities for people who would otherwise be at the back of the queue.
