Women Who Hope: Poly
My name is Poly. I have been working with The Salvation Army's Others group in Bangladesh for 14 years.
I can embroider the heart, star and candle ornaments, shoe bags, laundry bags, floral purses, and more. The latest order I worked on was embroidering Easter eggs, and with the income from that order I can bear the expenses for my daughter's education and for the family.
I have purchased a school bag, uniform and books for my daughter. I have also set aside some savings in the bank. My husband is a driver, but he does not have a job regularly. When he doesn't have work then I also help my husband with my income. I am very happy and blessed working with The Salvation Army and Others. The Salvation Army is the hope for my family.
Others is a Salvation Army initiative using fair trade principles to create jobs and contribute to empowerment and poverty alleviation.
In work lies hope for a better future, a pathway to independence, and – not least – dignity and pride. Others is one of the ways in which the international Salvation Army today continues to create employment opportunities for people who would otherwise be at the back of the queue.
