Women Who Hope: Florence
Major Florence is a Salvation Army officer (minister) from Myanmar. She currently serves at International Headquarters in London, England, and recently contributed to ‘Reflections on Justice’, a collection of devotional readings written by Salvationist women from around the world.
In my life, I never thought I'd face a failed marriage.
I always wanted a loving family, united in faith and service to God. When I married the love of my life and started our ministry together, I thought my dreams were coming true. But after six years, those dreams were shattered. Love, trust, and hope were replaced by betrayal, deceit, and pain, leading to our separation.
After the divorce, I was filled with questions. How could I continue as a divorced woman in a culture that sees failed marriages as a disgrace? As the reality of divorce set in, my worries grew. My biggest fear was losing my role as a Salvation Army officer, especially when I had to step back for a while. It is more than an occupation; it is my calling and a covenant with God.
But in my difficult times, the Lord taught me to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer. Despite the pain, I held onto these teachings, trusting God who can do more than we ask. I prayed and I waited with gratitude.
Looking back, I'm thankful I followed his Word. Through my despair, I found strength I didn't know I had. The experience deepened my empathy and understanding, helping me connect with others in their pain. It reaffirmed my faith and commitment to my calling, showing me that even in our darkest times, God's light can bring healing and hope. What was a painful chapter has become a powerful testimony of God's unwavering love and faithfulness as I placed my hope and trust in him.
