// 02 NOVEMBER 2024 //

The three-day National Writer's Workshop 2024 occurred at the Red Shield Guest House in Kolkata from September 23rd to 25th, 2024. The India National Office organised the Workshop by Colonel S.P. Simon, National Executive Officer, who lit candles and declared the inspiring theme, "Let Your Lamp Shine." Twenty delegates from three territories attended the event.

Sessions and Resource Persons:

- Colonel S. P. Simon, National Executive Officer, India National Office: Explored The Salvation Army Publications, its core values, and the role of writers.

- Mr. Saptarishi: A writer, director, and creative producer who enlightened delegates on thinking and writing effectively, with a focus on report writing and practical exercises.

- Mr. Buddha Dev, IT Manager & Graphics Designer, India National Office: Explained how social media can be utilized in evangelism.

- Colonel Annamma Simon, National Secretary for Women Development, India National Office: Discussed the importance of communication in building relationships.

- Mr. Allen David: A young educator and public speaker (aged 21) led a workshop on the history of writing and encouraged the development of reading habits among young people and children.

- Major Evama Shaijuraj, Editor of "The War Cry," India National Office: Discussed how the writing ministry has helped The Salvation Army spread its mission.

All lectures were delivered engagingly, fostering interaction and discussion among the delegates.

The outing to Eco Park provided a perfect blend of relaxation and social interaction, allowing delegates to unwind and get to know each other better. During the cultural program, participants showcased their diverse cultures through various performances.

The National Writer's Workshop 2024 was a thoughtfully planned and well-executed event. The resource persons contributed significantly, enhancing the workshop's value. Discussions addressed the current trend of children and youth moving away from Salvation Army publications and avoiding reading altogether. The activities aimed to develop our publications to increase readership, making them timely and essential.

The closing meeting was led by Major Shaijuraj Lalas, and Colonel S.P. Simon delivered a thought-provoking Bible sermon, encouraging delegates to think critically and plan for the growth of the writing ministry within The Salvation Army.

We hope that the dedication and efforts of the Editorial Department in this workshop have laid a strong foundation for future endeavours in the writing ministry.
