The Territorial Officers' Council took place from September 18 to 20, 2024, at the New Delhi Municipal Council Convention Centre, located in Palika Kendra, Sansad Marg, New Delhi. Officers from the India Northern Territory rededicated their lives to God, experiencing the presence of the Holy Spirit. The event provided a time for learning, spiritual growth, and fellowship.
Officers awaited the last-minute visas of guest Commissioners Kelly and Donna Igleheart, Territorial Leaders of the USA Southern Territory, along with Captain Ashish Pawar, Corps Officer of the Atlanta International Corps. When their visas were granted, it prompted heartfelt praise and gratitude to God. This period of renewal and spiritual rejuvenation allowed the officers to step back from the demands of daily ministry, replenish their spirits, and strengthen their connection with God. Commissioners Kelly and Donna Igleheart represented the love and support of the USA Southern Territory.
Lieut. Colonel Andrews Christian, Chief Secretary, welcomed everyone and provided guidelines for the three-day event. Colonel Vanlalfela, the Territorial Commander, and Colonel Ropari, TPWM, extended a warm welcome to the guests. Over the course of the event, Lieut. Colonel Andrews Christian, Lieut. Colonel Sulakhan Masih, and Lieut. Colonel George Patrick led the councils consecutively. All attendees were blessed by the morning devotions held throughout the three days.
Commissioner Kelly, Territorial Commander of the USA Southern Territory, led sessions for three days under the theme “Leading Me,” equipping officers spiritually, physically, and psychologically. Key practices discussed under this theme included: Growing Your Vision, Unhooking Bungee Cords, Keeping Connected, Taking Care of Yourself, Leveraging Your Impact, and Managing Your Time.
Emphasizing the spiritual, psychological, physical, and social growth of the officers, Commissioner Donna Igleheart inspired all attendees by stating, “You are the sons and daughters of this soil, and there is treasure in this soil.” Captain Ashish Pawar delivered a message in Hindi that challenged officers to embrace holiness and completely surrender to God. His words resonated deeply, prompting many officers to seek God’s presence at the altar.
The Commissioners expressed, “While the distance may be great, the passion and dedication in India fill us with joy! We are all connected, part of one big Salvation Army family serving God together.” Colonel Vanlalfela, the Territorial Commander, spoke about “Rebuilding the Wall,” encouraging officers to reflect on their service and identify areas needing repair. He highlighted Nehemiah's example, emphasizing the importance of sharing vision, praying for wisdom, and following proper procedures.
Lieut. Colonel Andrews Christian introduced the governance system and the legal entity of The Salvation Army in India, emphasizing the need for diligent spiritual leadership (Romans 12:6). He outlined the role of the Territorial Governance Council in communication and the Accountability Movement, which fosters a Christ-like culture.
Lieut. Colonel George Patrick focused on strategic planning, resource management, and holistic ministry, referencing Jeremiah 29:11. Lieut. Colonel Sulakhan Masih emphasized the importance of prioritizing God, explaining that prayer and personal experiences are essential for building strong relationships with God and others. Lieut. Colonel Ranjit Nayak highlighted the importance of self-reliance, accountability, and transparency.
Commissioner Donna Igleheart delivered a powerful sermon and led a meaningful time of prayer at the altar. Captain Ashish spoke from Isaiah 6:1-8, reminding everyone of the transformative power of encountering God. Commissioner Kelly Igleheart’s final sermon, based on 1 Peter 2:4-8, anchored the officers in Christ, our rock and refuge. The officers sealed their commitment by signing their covenant and concluded the event with powerful testimonies and a celebration.
