Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory Prepares to Host 2014 International Conference of Leaders

The Salvation Army’s global leadership team is meeting in Singapore from 19-26 July 2014 for the International Conference of Leaders

THE Salvation Army’s global leadership team is meeting in Singapore from 19-26 July 2014 for the International Conference of Leaders (ICL), under the direction of General André Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox (World President of Women’s Ministries) supported by the Chief of the Staff, Commissioner William A. Roberts, and Commissioner Nancy Roberts (World Secretary for Women’s Ministries). The conference will be attended by leaders of The Salvation Army's 59 territories, commands and regions from around the world, together with commissioners serving on International Headquarters (IHQ) and the USA national leaders.

The General says: ‘These are important days during which our discussions will focus on key themes, some having been raised at last year’s pre-High Council conference. We should not simply sit and listen to the delivery of various presentations, but must grapple with some of the urgent issues facing our Army today.’

Signalling the importance of transition in leadership and sharing of information, the General has invited six incoming leaders who will take up new territorial or command appointments following the ICL. Strategically this confirms a commitment to transparency and accountability in leadership, which is a priority for the General.

The denominational and societal trends and issues that will be considered by the ICL are: Adherent Membership, Leadership Development, Lifestyle Issues, Impact Measurement and Accountability. Reflecting on these topics, the General adds: ‘Our conference will represent an important milestone within an ongoing journey that shall continue into the weeks and months ahead.’

Singapore Central Corps (church) will host the welcome meeting for the ICL on Sunday 20 July 2014. The service will be live streamed via the International Headquarters website – www.salvationarmy.org – commencing at 4.45 pm local time (GMT +8 hours). The General invites Salvationists and friends around the world to join in the welcome celebrations and pray for their leaders as they meet in Singapore for these important deliberations.

The Salvation Army’s Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory is part of the South Pacific and East Asia Zone. The Army’s work in Singapore was established in 1935.
