On the morning of March 13, a vapor cloud described as a potential chemical threat emerged from the Haviland Enterprises Plant in Grand Rapids. The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster (EDS) team was called for assistance and support after several hours of environmental testing and evaluation by HASMAT crew members and local fire and police officials. Fortunately, first responders were able to secure the area, contain and cleanup the chemical residue. Volunteers and EDS personnel established a communication network, maintaining contact with the EDS Canteen and providing situation updates to the local first responders command staff. The EDS canteen served on-site lunch and hydration to over 35 first responders, law enforcement officials and firefighters. For more information on Emergency Disaster Services, please clickhere.
