19 May 2015
President Obama’s visit to the Camden, New Jersey Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center focused on the Camden County Police Department, which has received national attention for its efforts in reducing crime in the troubled, impoverished city.
The center, which opened its doors in October, is booming. The 120,000 square-foot Salvation Army community center sees 5,000 to 6,000 visitors each weekend and now has nearly 7,000 members.
"The Salvation Army has had a presence in Camden for 130 years. The Kroc Center is its “most exciting installment” said Major Paul Cain, the Kroc Center’s administrator.
