The Salvation Army enjoyed the benefits of being the Presenting Sponsor of the inaugural Red Kettle Game with the Grand Rapids Griffins on November 20. A home crowd of nearly 8,500 hockey  fans were exposed to The Salvation Army throughout the evening with video clips, signage and announcements. Major Norman Grainger participated in a ceremonial puck-drop to start the game and was even spotted between the second and third periods riding the Zamboni.

Specially-designed game-worn jerseys with the Red Shield logo were auctioned after the game with net proceeds going to The Salvation Army. In addition, the Brass Band played “God Bless America” during unfurling of 80-foot US flag over center ice between the second and third periods. The Salvation Army thanks the Grand Rapids Griffins for helping us raise awareness about our programs and services as well as demonstrating our commitment to, and involvement in, the local community.
