Thanks to many generous donations, The Salvation Army of Kent County raised $43,633 on Tuesday, December 1, during the national "Giving Tuesday" -- a national day of giving that celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.

This amount was used to activate a $30,000 matching gift made available by The Salvation Army's Grand Rapids Advisory Board. The matching gift was created to demonstrated like-minded support by the board of The Salvation Army.

"We are blessed by the generosity of our board and for the example they set in our community. We are especially thankful for the community in the way they responded to the original matching gift," said Major Normal Grainger, Kent County Coordinator. "It will go a long way in helping us meet thte $1.6 million Christmas Campaign goal."

The Red Kettle Christmas Campaign continues through the holidays, with over 60 Red Kettle sites throughout Kent County, or online at sakentcounty.org.
