Emergency Disaster Services Teams Activated in Affected States

Alexandria, Virginia (April 28, 2014) – The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams are providing food, beverages and spiritual support to survivors and first responders in impacted areas following the severe weather and tornados that passed through Arkansas and Oklahoma yesterday, including the hardest-hit communities of Mayflower and Vilonia, Arkansas. Disaster response teams have been deployed to assess damage, and personnel are collaborating with emergency management groups at the local, county and state levels to help.

Multiple locations in Arkansas have sustained damage due to strong weather that passed through the area beginning at 4 p.m. central time yesterday afternoon; Quapaw, Oklahoma, also sustained storm damage yesterday. The Salvation Army has deployed mobile feeding units across the affected areas.

Severe weather is expected to continue today, and Salvation Army disaster teams are prepared to respond should storms continue to grow.

Monetary donations are a critical need as supplies and personnel are mobilized.
