Update on GRETA – the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings
Update on GRETA – the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings GRETA is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings by the Parties. GRETA meets in plenary sessions three times a year. It carries out visits and draws up and publishes country reports evaluating legislative and other measures taken by Parties to give effect to the provisions of the Convention. It is good to know that the terms of office of 13 of the 15 current members of GRETA will expire on 31 December 2016. The elections to fill the vacant seats will be held at the 19th meeting of the Committee of the Parties of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings on 4 November 2016. The governments of these countries have been invited to submit the names of up to three candidates known for their recognised competence in the fields of human rights, assistance and protection of victims and action against trafficking in human beings or having professional experience in the areas covered by the Convention. |
GRETA regularly publishes general reports on its activities. A new report has been published ‘Emerging Good Practice by State Authorities, the Business Community and Civil Society in the Area of Reducing Demand for Human Trafficking for the Purpose of Labour Exploitation’. If you are working on anti-human trafficking within The Salvation Army, it would be useful to know the monitoring mechanisms in place and to get involved with GRETA where feasible.
