The Salvation Army in Switzerland organises conference to discuss migration
by Catherine MALLET
Major Mike Stannett, Officer for EU Affairs was amongst numerous guest speakers to discuss issues relating to migration in a conference organised by The Salvation Army in Switzerland. Topics included the role of civil society, the direction of The Salvation Army’s refugee assistance, as well as a viewpoint from a former refugee.
The Salvation Army was asking itself how we are meeting the basic need of people with a refugee background how can we offer emotional and spiritual support to asylum seekers, as well as colleagues? How can we recognise and develop existing skills and the potential in asylum seekers. Should The Salvation Army speak up for migrants and if so how? What would we bear in mind with regards to the future of migration work? A variety of workshops were held to discuss these topics, the conclusions of which were brought together in a panel debate at the end of the conference.
