The Salvation Army responds to CEC’s letter: ‘Religion and the European Public Sphere’
In June 2016 the Conference of European Churches (CEC) issued an open letter entitled What future for Europe? The letter reflected on the current political, economic and social situation and highlighted the various crises facing Europe today - the influx of migrants and refugees, violent conflicts and terrorist attacks, and economic crises. It reaffirmed the conviction of the churches that Europe should be a community of common values. The letter invited CEC member churches to respond by the end of December 2016. The Salvation Army International Headquarters and the United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland as members of CEC, have written a joint response. It is titled A Vision of Neighbourly Love and describes our vision for all Europe (not just the European Union) as a community built on the values of the kingdom of God.' Officer for EU Affairs Major Mike Stannett and Comm. Vibekke Krommenhoek contributed to this response.
