The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN), to which the Salvation Army in Europe belongs, has recently published the handbook Change, Hope & Justice, which aims to strenghten members' capacity to act against poverty and human rights violations.
This publication is the final result of a long process to put a human rights approach into the fight against poverty, carried out by a taskforce of EAPN members. It si hoped that the handbook will inspire organisations, but also governments, national human rights institutes, Equality Bodies and public, private and not-for-profit service providers to include Human Rights as the basis of their work, and as a new lens to look at poverty.
As the Salvation Army, EAPN believes that fighting against poverty and human rights are not two distinct projects, but two projects that reinforce each other. A human rights based approach means that norms and principles of human rights law should play a major role in tackling poverty, and guide all public policies affecting persons living in poverty.
