New-look 'All the World' seeks new readers!
ALL THE WORLD, The Salvation Army's longest-running international magazine, is looking to the future with a complete redesign. The October-December issue, out this week, has a brand-new look and contains more pages (24 compared to the 20) with no price rise. This is the first significant redesign in more than 10 years for a magazine that last year celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Kevin Sims, Editor of All the World since 1999, hopes current readers will enjoy the new look and that new readers will realise what they've been missing! 'All the World is The Salvation Army's only international magazine for the everyman and everywoman,' says Kevin. 'I hope it provides Salvationists with information and interest, highlighting the internationalism that is such a great feature of this wonderful movement. We try to avoid Army "jargon" so it can be understood by non-Salvationists and people who are interested in The Salvation Army. I'd love to see it used more widely in libraries, in contact with local and national governments and in public relations work. I also see no reason why it can't be sold or given out alongside The War Cry or other magazines that are aimed at the general public.'
He says the redesign is part of this vision. 'The Salvation Army needs to be seen as a modern-day movement and its publications have a part to play. The new-look All the World wouldn't be out of place alongside secular publications with large design budgets. We rely instead on the skills of designer Berni Georges and a potent mix of perspiration and inspiration.'
The October-December issue includes some new features which give insight into the different challenges faced by Salvationists around the world as well as a focus on The Salvation Army in Liberia and articles about emergency relief work in Pakistan and Chile. The back page, soon to be made available for download, consists of a poster showing the ongoing growth of The Salvation Army.
Kevin concludes: 'I'm constantly inspired by the amazing things God is doing through The Salvation Army around the world. I hope readers of All the World feel encouraged and thankful when they read the magazine – and that they in turn are inspired to write their own story of God's grace and love.'
